Anomia Press

I started Anomia Press in May of 2009. However, a lot happened before that.

In a nutshell, I came up with an idea for a game in 1998.  Mostly the concept just rattled around in my head, nagging at me for about six years.

Spurred on by my wife, who had grown weary of hearing me talk about my game idea, I decided to try making a prototype. Five prototypes and many, many play-testing sessions later (not to mention a full-time job, a wedding, a baby, a move from Brooklyn to Boston, and another baby) I realized my game, Anomia™, was finally ready.

In the spring of 2009 I started Anomia Press and set out to raise enough money to pay for the first printing of Anomia. I used Facebook, Twitter, email, and this website to appeal to the hundreds of people who had attended play-test sessions over the years. I asked everyone to pre-purchase copies of Anomia™ to help subsidize the first printing.

By the end of July 2009 I had pre-sold over 500 copies of Anomia™ and had succeeded in raising just about all the money I needed to go into production.  The games arrived in mid-November and I shipped out all 500+ copies just in time for the Thanksgiving holidays. Word spread quickly and I sold an additional 400+ copies between Thanksgiving and Christmas!

The momentum continued to grow and by the end of 2010 Anomia™ had sold over 25,000 copies, won some major toy industry awards, and has been picked up by hundreds of stores across the United States, Canada, and Australia!

So what's next for Anomia Press?  In December 2010 my wife, Jody, came on board bringing her expertise in marketing, design, and Quickbooks!  Our kids, ages 3 and 5, help out with envelope stuffing and other important tasks.  We've begun testing some new game ideas, and hope to have new games out in 2012.  Our mission is to bring people together and encourage laughter and creative thinking, and we see many possibilities ahead!
